About Me

I’m Mahek Manchanda, the curious heart behind Dramatically Stirring.

Before this space existed, my life revolved around kitchens that were loud, demanding, and endlessly alive. I didn’t arrive at cooking through a single dramatic moment.

It happened slowly, through repetition, long hours, burnt fingers, quiet wins, and the deep satisfaction of feeding people well.

I learned to cook by doing the work. I spent years moving through restaurant kitchens, absorbing everything I could from chefs, line cooks, prep tables, and service rushes. Each kitchen taught me something different. Discipline. Timing. Humility. Respect for ingredients.

Working in restaurants showed me that cooking is not just creativity. It is consistency, patience, and care. It is showing up every day and treating food like something that deserves attention. Those years shaped how I cook today. I learned to trust my instincts, to understand flavor without overcomplicating it, and to let ingredients speak instead of forcing them into trends.

How Dramatically Stirring Was Born

Dramatically Stirring grew out of a need to slow down.

After years of cooking professionally, I wanted a place where food didn’t have to rush out on a ticket. I wanted room to think, taste, adjust, and document the way dishes actually come together when no one is shouting behind you.

This space holds the recipes that come from my own hands and experience. Every dish here is something I’ve cooked, tested, adjusted, and returned to more than once. These are not theoretical recipes. They are personal, lived-in, and rooted in real kitchen work.

A Quiet Personal Life

I’ve always been most at ease in my own company. I’m not exactly a people-person, and small talk still makes me cringe, but I’ve learned to find comfort in quieter rhythms.

Pixie and Pepper, my two cats, are the steady constants in my everyday life. Pixie is the soft, watchful one who pretends not to care but never lets me out of her sight. Pepper is the mischievous spark who somehow finds every sunny spot and wanders into photos I never plan to take. They are always nearby, whether I’m curled up at home with a book or moving slowly through a new place.

Reading is where I retreat when the world feels loud. Books, leftovers, quiet mornings, and familiar flavors ground me. These small, ordinary moments matter to me just as much as the food I cook.

My Cooking Philosophy

I cook with intention, not excess.

Thai and Mediterranean flavors feel like home to me. Brothy soups layered with aromatics, olive oil soaked breads, herbs used with care, and spice that builds rather than overwhelms. At the same time, I’m drawn to quiet dishes. The ones that hide at the edges of menus. The food people make without thinking of presentation or praise.

Those are the recipes that stay with me, and those are the ones I love sharing.
