Ingredients

  • 8 pieces mozzarella cheese sticks frozen or fresh
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for coating
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs for crispy coating
  • 1 tsp garlic powder adds flavor
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika optional, for smoky flavor
  • to taste salt and pepper for seasoning

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Baking sheet or plate
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of panko, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Carefully roll each mozzarella stick in the flour, ensuring an even coating that helps the egg adhere properly.
  3. Dip the floured mozzarella stick into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off for an even layer.
  4. Press the egg-coated mozzarella into the seasoned panko mixture, turning to cover all sides thoroughly, creating a crispy crust.
  5. Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a tray lined with parchment or a lightly greased surface, ensuring they do not touch.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C), then slide in the mozzarella sticks carefully, leaving space between each for even cooking.
  7. Cook the mozzarella sticks in the air fryer for about 8-10 minutes, shaking or turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Once cooked, remove the mozzarella sticks and let them sit for a minute or two to set the melted cheese inside.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces, and enjoy the crispy exterior with the gooey melted cheese inside.
