Ingredients

  • 2 pieces hot dogs preferably beef or your choice of sausage
  • 2 pieces hot dog buns soft and fresh
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese cheddar or your favorite melting cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted, for brushing

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Small baking brush

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). In the meantime, cut the hot dog buns in half lengthwise, creating an open pocket for the hot dogs.
  2. Insert a hot dog into each bun, smoothing the top so it’s snug but not squeezed tight. Brush the outside of each bun lightly with melted butter for extra flavor and crispness.
  3. Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded cheese over the top of each hot dog, covering the bun and slightly melting into the opening.
  4. Place the stuffed buns in the air fryer basket, cheese side up, making sure they aren’t overcrowded so air can circulate freely.
  5. Cook in the preheated air fryer for about 8 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling and start to brown slightly.
  6. Carefully remove the cheesy hot dog buns from the air fryer. Let them sit for a minute to settle— cheese will be hot and gooey, and the edges crispy.
  7. Serve immediately, with melted cheese and crispy bread creating a perfect bite. Enjoy the playful, cheesy gooeyness with a crispy exterior!

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle some chopped parsley or jalapeños before serving. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses or add a dash of mustard inside the buns before cooking.
